Hyundai Motor Group has put out two sketches on its Facebook page, teasing its upcoming Sonata sedan. The two images that will give fans an idea of what the front and rear end of the upcoming (redesigned) car looks like but also shows some agressive overtones which Hyundai seemed to have done away with the new Elantra sedan. The outgoing Sonata model looks a lot different and has yet to be updated to the new look that can be seen on the recently launched Hyundai models. So in short, it does make plenty of sense to upgrade it, and this is more so because Toyota has a new design language this year and its 2018 Camry already looks a lot different.
As mentioned in the title, the design of the upcoming Sonata and Sonata Turbo (diesel) do look aggressive. The standard model remains a bit more refined and looks very similar to the recently launched Hyundai Elantra, but surely will look different thanks to its size and heft when it is announced in the flesh. It features the new design for the cascading grille, headlamps arrangement and the DRLs all combined with what appears to be a hefty look. However the rear end is distinct and looks a lot sharper than anything Hyundai currently has on sale.
The model tagged as the turbo (2.0T) looks a lot more aggressive and sporty. Hyundai seems to have given it the black treatment with an all-black front grille, blacked out airscoops around the DRLs and mirrors as well. Moving to the back there's actually a rear diffuser with darker tail lamps and small outlets in the folds of the rear bumper. The tailpipes too get split up adding to that street look.
At least from the sketches (which are usually exaggerated compared to the final model) the turbo model appears to have a lower stance and a more beefed-up appearance. But we really cannot take a call as these are just the sketches showing the evolution of the design, and things could have changed in the final model.
The new Hyundai Sonata is expected to debut next month at the Seoul Motor Show before going global in the second quarter.
