Bugatti has unveiled the Vision Gran Turismo at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015. This is the first race car that Bugatti has designed since the EB110, but it’s just a concept that will not hit an actual race track. This Vision Gran Turismo however, will make its way to the Gran Turismo video game available for the PlayStation.
The Vision Gran Turismo was developed in co-operation with Polyphony Digital Inc, the creator of the Gran Turismo video game franchise. It’s design draws inspiration from the Bugatti Type 57 Tank which claimed victories in the 24-hour Le Mans races in 1937 and 1939. The Vision Gran Turismo will be presented in the same blue two-tone finish that was seen in the Type 57 G Tank that won in 1937.
Bugatti say that every part of the vehicle was designed to have a real function, despite the fact that it was being developed for a video game. The NACA air intake on the top is said to contribute to control of the aerodynamic conditions on the top of and at the rear end of the car without compromising the rear wing’s effectiveness. Another element that draws its inspiration from the past, is the centre fin seen first on 1936 Type 57 Atlantic. The fin is present at the front as well as on the rear wing, all this contributing to the Vision Gran Turismo’s dynamic stability.
“We wanted to create a project as realistic as possible for our fans and put a real Bugatti in the virtual world of the PlayStation video game franchise. Every design characteristic is defined by its function. Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo is the perfect symbiosis of engineering and aesthetics,” says Frank Heyl, the head of exterior design for production development at Bugatti.
Although this will not become a real race car, it gives a sneak peek at where Bugatti is going with the Veyron’s successor.
