Russia, Turkey downplay differences over Syrian civil war
Istanbul: The leaders of Russia and Turkey have downplayed differences over how to end the Syrian civil war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says the two countries agree on the need to end the humanitarian crisis in Syria, but he acknowledged differences over how to achieve that goal.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the Turkish and Russian foreign ministers will work together more intensively on the Syrian problem.
Erdogan and Putin met in Istanbul on Monday.
Russia is one of the Syrian regime's few remaining allies. Turkey is calling for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
