A twitter account related to ISIS has issued a first direct call to attack American targets and this time they aren’t journalists or political figures. This time the group has threatened to assassinate Twitter employees. A report in the Vocativ said Twitter has been closing accounts of ISIS and similar organisations in an attempt to choke their extremist propaganda. One of the several threatening tweets from an account named @Dawlamoon read: "“#The_Concept_of_Lone_Wolf_Attacks The time has arrived to respond to Twitter’s management by directly attacking their employees and physically assassinating them!! Those who will carry this out are the sleepers cells of death.” [caption id=“attachment_1704705” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] AP[/caption] The @Dawlamoon account is linked to a Jerusalem-based group called Al Nusra Al Maqdisia, which is linked to and frequently mentioned in Islamic State forums, according to a report from Vocativ**.** Its exact connection to the Islamic State is although unknown. The @Dawlamoon account, which had 3000 followers, was suspended after the threats were issued on Monday. Twitter opened an official investigation too. A report in the Mashable quoted a Twitter spokesperson as saying: “Our security team is investigating the veracity of these threats with relevant law enforcement officials.” The other tweets from the same user are as follows: “#The_Concept_of_Lone_Wolf_Attacks Every Twitter employee in San Francisco in the United States should bear in mind and watch over himself because on his doorstep there might be a lone wolf assassin waiting.” “#Attacking_Twitter_Employees is on the agenda of mujahedeen and lone wolves who are across Europe.” It is not possible to confirm whether or not this account is a reflection of official ISIS policy, the report in Vocativ said, but the group and its accounts are well-known and frequently referenced in online ISIS forums. The group has also been using the social network Diaspora, initially established as a rival to Facebook. A fugitive American citizen named Ahmad Abousamra is wanted in connection with the group’s social media efforts. Twitter would not say whether security at its headquarters had been beefed up as a result of the threats.
A Twitter account associated with ISIS has been shut down after they sent out tweets that threatened to assassinate Twitter employees. This comes just after Twitter began shutting accounts that were connected with ISIS, according to reports.
