London: A week after Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager shot in the head by the Taliban for campaigning for girls’ education, was flown to UK for specialised treatment, she continues to make steady progress and is in a stable condition, her doctors said today.

“She has now been in the hospital for one week, under the care of a specialist team from both the Queen Elizabeth and Birmingham Children’s hospitals. More than 4,000 messages of support have been posted on the Trust’s website,” the spokesperson of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital said in a statement.
15-year-old Malala has been able to stand with help and is communicating by writing notes, Dr Dave Rosser, the medical director at the hospital had said earlier.
Malala was shot at in the former Taliban stronghold of the Swat valley as a punishment for campaigning for the right of girls to an education, an attack which outraged the world.
