Key issues Hillary Clinton will take up with India

by May 7, 2012

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in India to discuss a host of issues with her Indian counterparts. CNN-IBN senior editor Suhasini Haider outlines the key issues that will be discussed.

India is likely to bring up the issue of Hafiz Saeed and the perceived US flip-flop on whether there is a bounty on the LeT founder or not. The US expects India to curb importing oil from Iran, as part of its ‘worldwide crackdown’ on Iran.

US would want India to bring FDI in multi-brand retail.

The two countries  crossed $100 million in bilateral trade for the first time last year. The two sides are also likely to discuss areas of co-operation like terror, agriculture, education etc.

Another important point of discussion would be Indian’s role in Afghanistan as the US continues its pull out. India is looking for a stronger position in the Afgan region.

This is seen as the farewell visit of the Secretary of State as her term ends in November this year.
