India, Pak must promote stability, peace: Zardari to Pranab

Jul 26, 2012

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari today said it is “imperative” for India and Pakistan to promote stability, peace and prosperity in the region and “seek peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue”.

Zardari conveyed his views in a message sent to his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee on assumption of office.

“It is imperative that our two countries endeavour to promote stability, peace and prosperity in our region and seek peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue,” Zardari said in his message.

While felicitating Mukherjee, Zardari assured the Indian President of “the sincere desire of the government and the people of Pakistan to work towards forging good neighbourly, friendly and cooperative relations with India, securely founded on the principles of the Charter of the UN”.

On behalf of the people of Pakistan, Zardari conveyed heartfelt felicitations to Mukherjee on his assumption of office.

“I wish you every success, good health and happiness and progress and prosperity to the people of India,” he said.

India and Pakistan resumed their dialogue process last year after a gap of over two years in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that were blamed on the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries are scheduled to meet in September to review the second round of the dialogue process.
