What does the border skirmish in the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan mean for the future of democracy in both the countries? What should be India's response to Pakistan's claim that India should not be ratcheting up the cry for war but rather should work for a diplomatic solution? Lets see what two experts have to say:
Fareed Zakaria, Editor-at-large, Time
"For an unplanned event like this (the killing of two Indian soldiers in the LoC and the alleged beheading and mutilation of their bodies) to derail the process is unfair when both the countries had reached some kind of strategic cooperation. It is at the end of the day an unplanned event and I largely doubt whether General Kayani had given any active orders for the same."
According to him, United States or any third party will not get involved in the issue at all.
However, he said that Pakistan had to curb the growing number of terrorist organisations in the country that could also threaten the peace process with India.
"For so many years as an instrument of national policy it encouraged these extremist groups. Pakistan has not found a way to de-legitimise the jihadi groups," he said.
Salman Khurshid, External Affairs Minister
""An atmosphere is needed for the talks to go on. We are hopeful that Pakistan will understand the message sent by our PM. We are not waiting to someone else to solve our problems," he said.
But he made it clear that India would also not budge from asking Pakistan to clear their stance on the killing and mutilation of the two Indian soldiers along the LoC.
"We stand by the content and substance of what we believe is critical in what went wrong, "he said.
He made it clear that he would await the decision of the PM to hold talks with Pakistani Foreign Affairs Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.
"The differences have to be resolved and for that we need to proceed with wisdom keeping in mind the interest and sentiment of the nation. We will await the PM's direction in this regard," he said.
