The two 'M's-Mamata Banerjee and Mulayam Singh Yadav - are currently the two most talked about politicians on the national stage. The third 'M', Mayawati is still waiting in the wings for her share of 'glory'. She has asked the nation to wait till October 10, when her party, the Bahujan Samaj Party, holds its national executive meet.
There are certain commonalities between Mamata and Mulayam. Both are rooted to the ground, rule big states and have strong support base in the minority community. However, the similarities end here. Mamata is a firebrand leader known for her impulsiveness while Mulayam is a veteran politician known to have a canny head on his seasoned shoulders. The move by the two to come together during the presidential elections was a flop. Mamata banked on Mulayam to extend support to a common candidate. Mulayam gave her the royal ditch.
