Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will start their 2013 campaign against Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, April 3. The sixth edition of the IPL will also witness the debut of Sunrisers Hyderabad, previously known as Deccan Chargers. Sunrisers will take on Pune Warriors at home in their first match, April 5. strongCape Town:/strong Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir yesterday admitted that it was indeed very disappointing not to have qualified for the semifinals of the Champions League Twenty20. It is very disappointing not to have qualified for the semifinals but this is not the end of the world. We will definitely come back stronger in the next edition of the Indian Premier League, Gambhir said at the post-match presentation ceremony. KKR were sent packing after their third group match, against Perth Scorchers, was called off due to rain. The team desperately needed to win the game to remain in the hunt after losing its opening two matches. I think there is always pressure once you win a tournament and you go to the next tournament. We were hoping to win this game and somehow qualify. But the guys are still keen on playing their last game. So hopefully, we can give a good performance, said Narine. strongDurban/strong: IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders were knocked out of the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 after their must-win match against Perth Scorchers was called off due to incessant rain here. The Knight Riders needed to win this match at any cost, having suffered reverses in their first two outings against Delhi Daredevils and Auckland Aces, but luck deserted Gautam Gambhir and his men on their most important day. In the process, they became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament proper. A downpour followed by continues drizzle ensured the game ended 14 overs into the Scorchers innings - they were 91 for two at that stage. Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir wants his teammates to play smart and better cricket in their remaining two matches after they suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Auckland Aces in a Group A match of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament. We need to play some smart cricket, some better cricket than what we are capable of and try to get the results in our favour. strongCape Town/strong: Kolkata Knight Riders' chances of making the semifinals of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament suffered a major blow as they slumped to their second successive defeat after losing to Auckland Aces by seven wickets in a Group A match. Auckland rode high on veteran Azhar Mahmood's superb all-round show as they knocked off a modest target of 138 runs with 14 balls to spare. Mahmood, who was instrumental in restricting KKR to 137 for six with brilliant figures of 3 for 16, also produced an unbeaten knock of 51 runs, which turned out to be crucial in the final outcome of the match at the New Wanderers stadium. KKR captain Gautam Gambhir's decision to induct Shakib Al Hasan at the expense of seasoned Brett Lee backfired badly as the reigning IPL champions missed out a genuine paceman on a pitch that was assisting the faster bowlers. Apart from Mahmood, Lou Vincent (30), Martin Guptill (25) and Anaru Kitchen (24) also came up with useful contributions.
