If you’ve lived through the 80s and 90s its possible you would have seen one version of a ‘chapati maker’ in your house which was supposed to ease your burden. However, these machines while electric required you to roll the dough, flatten it, watch it cook and even flip it. Then there are the giant chapati makers in mass kitchens (like this one) that churn out hundreds of rotis for hundreds of people. An advertisement for a new roti maker seems to have caught the fancy of Indians on social media and we have to admit, it does look pretty cool. [caption id=“attachment_1192081” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Screengrab of the roti maker.[/caption] Made by a Singapore based startup, Zimplistic, the video shows how the roti maker works. The user just has to add flour and water and choosing the setting for how the chapati needs to be cooked. The makers claim the machine can cook upto one chapati a minute. Unfortunately they’ve not yet put a price tag to the device and it will be available only in December in Singapore.
