Sony is holding a special event in New Delhi to launch its two flagship Xperia smartphones in India. The Xperia Z and the 5-inch Xperia ZL are expected to be launched today.

The smartphones are already available for pre-order on the online shopping site Flipkart. We could not find them on Infibeam or HomeShop 18. The Xperia Z costs Rs 38,990 while the ZL costs Rs 35,990.

Sony is hoping that these two devices will help it bounce back in the worldwide markets.

Key features of the Xperia Z are:

• It has a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor.

• A 5-inch full HD screen. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080.

• The device runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean.

• It has 2GB RAM and up to 16GB of memory space. This is expanable to 32GB via a microSD card slot.

• It also supports 4G/LTE band for high-speed Internet. The smartphone is touted as a water and dust-resistant device.

• It has a pretty heavy duty rear camera with 13.1 megapixels, as well as a 2.2MP front-facing camera. The device supports Near field communications (NFC).

The device is available in three colours on Flipkart: White, Purple and Black and the site has an EMI offer scheme going on as well.

The Xperia ZL also has the same tech specifications however at 9.8 mm, it is slightly thicker than Xperia Z which is 7.9 mm. Unlike the Xperia Z, the Xperia ZL  doesn’t have a glossy glass casing and doesn’t seem to be dust or water resistant. The Xperia ZL only comes in Black and White.
