Sony launches high-end Cyber-shot RX10 in India for Rs 84,990

Sony Corporation yesterday launched a new high-end camera in India, theCyber-shot RX10 which is priced at Rs 84,990. The camera will be available in India from December onwards. The RX10 has a fixed Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-200mm (35mm equivalent) F2.8 lens. Sony says that the the ability of the lens to focus even on distances as short as 3cm makes it ideal for capturing close-ups of flowers, insects, etc. The maximum aperture is wide F2.8 which should ensure brighter pictures, even in low-light conditions. Sony claims users don’t have to adjust ISO settings in low-light to capture great pictures. It comes with the Optical SteadyShot feature which helps users to take clearer, blur-free images when they shooting handheld - even at longer focal lengths. It has a 20.2 effective megapixels (approximate) 1.0-type back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, which Sony says is four times bigger than standard compact camera’s imager. Sony also claims that the autofocus in the camera is speedy and responsive due to the a new Direct Drive SSM mechanism that works together with sensor and BIONZ X processor in the camera. It also has the ’lock-on’ option in AutoFocus, which accurately tracks moving subjects. [caption id=“attachment_1252675” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]RX10 is seen in this file photo. A ‘clear’ HDMI output allows video to be reviewed on an external monitor or recorded to a separate storage device. It also has an audio level meter and adjustable levels to ensure that sound quality is not compromised. The camera has WiFi and allows easy one-touch connection with Xperia or NFC-compatible Android smartphone or tablet. The Cyber-shot RX10 also connects to iOS devices via Wi-Fi. High-resolution still images can be displayed directly on a 4K television from the camera as well. Sony also launched two others cameras, the alpha7 and alpha7R as well. “The alpha7 and alpha7R from Sony set an exciting new benchmark in digital imaging. A game-changing blend of imaging power and portability, both mirrorless models redefine the creative options of full-frame photography in a palm-sized interchangeable lens camera,” Sony Corp Head (Digital Imaging) Tsutomu Hamaguchi said in a press statement. The alpha7 (24.3 effective megapixels) and alpha7R (36.4 effective megapixels) have nine customisable buttons and 46 assignable functions. The alpha7 is priced at Rs 94,990, while the alpha7R would be available for Rs 1,24,990. The cameras would be available in the market by end of December this year. Both the cameras are Wi-Fi and NFC-enabled, allowing one-touch wireless connections with Sony’s Xperia or other NFC-compatible Android smartphones and tablets. Sony said the alpha7R weighs 407 grams (body only) and is the the world’s smallest, lightest interchangeable lens camera with a full-frame sensor. The company has also launched six new lenses priced between Rs 24,490 and Rs 199,990. With inputs from PTI
