Second lawsuit against Siri in Washington

Mar 29, 2012

Siri, the voice-activated personal assistant program built into the Apple iPhone 4S has been sued for the second time for overselling its capacities in advertisements.

Los Angeles Times reported that the new suit, filed on Thursday by one David Jones in California, makes the same basic accusation as the previous one that was filed by Frank M Fazio on 6 March. The law suit states that commercials for the iPhone 4S had misled him to buy the phone for Siri but that the company’s advertisements for the phone were “fiction”.

Both the law suits have sought class-action status.

“Through its nationwide multimedia marketing campaign, Apple disseminates false and deceptive representations regarding the functionality of the Siri feature,” the Los Angeles Times quoted the suit as saying.

The case that has been filed against Apple states that the Siri is shown to be scheduling appointments, finding local restaurants and even learning guitar strings while in reality the application does not perform on the device as it is advertised.

The complainant also says that as a result of the misleading messages about the iPhone 4S’s Siri feature, conveyed through its nationwide advertising and marketing campaign, Apple has been able to charge a significant price premium for the iPhone 4S.

The suit  adds that Jones has not found using Siri very easy.

The law suit filed by Jones also seeks financial “relief and damages” for not only  Jones, but also for other iPhone 4S owners.

Both the law suits have sought class-action status.
