Samsung Galaxy S4 16GB only has 8GB of usable storage

It seems Samsung’s latest device, the Galaxy S4 comes with only half the space advertised on the box, at least where the 16GB version of the device is concerned. According to this post on CNET, Nearly half of the S4’s storage space (after a factory reset, our 16GB Galaxy S4 showed 8.49GB of available room) is taken up with the phone’s operating system. In fact the company also defended the lack of space in the S4 and in a statement to CNET said, “For the Galaxy S4 16GB model, approximately 6.85GB occupies [the] system part of internal memory, which is 1GB bigger than that of the Galaxy S3, in order to provide [a] high resolution display and more powerful features to our consumers."  [caption id=“attachment_756103” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Samsung Galaxy S4 in this product image.[/caption] And yes, Reddit already has a dedicated thread where people are busy complaining about the Samsung Galaxy S4’s gimmicky features which have obviously turned out to be a space hogger. You can check out the thread here. However the  Samsung S4 isn’t the only device where the OS is taking up a lot of space. The OS on the HTC One 16GB version occupies 7.14GB space and it doesn’t even have a slot for a microSD card, unlike the HTC One which doesn’t.
