Rumour round up: All we know about the iPhone 5 so far

by Sep 9, 2012

So now we all know that the iPhone 5 is coming, because according to reports, Apple has officially sent out invites for a media event on 12 September.

The email invitation shows a big “12,” for 12 September, casting a shadow in the shape of a “5.” A pretty big hint if ever there was one.

So now the next big speculation point is, what does the iPhone 5 look like? According to Israeli tech site, GSMIsrael, the iPhone 5 was spotted at the IFA 2012 in Berlin. The site says that the CEO of a major cover and case manufacturer was carrying the device. From the video the iPhone 5 does seem to have a bigger screen that the previous versions, and has has a headphone jack on the bottom edge of the phone. You can see their YouTube video on top.

What are the other rumours about the iPhone 5?

According to a Wall Street Journal report, the next iPhone will use a new technology that makes the smartphone’s screen thinner. The report says that The technology, which integrates touch sensors into the LCD, makes it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer.

A Reuters report says the next iPhone will come with a 19-pin connector port at the bottom instead of the proprietary 30-pin port “to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom”.

Apple’s new iPhone will also likely have a Quad-core processor, the A-6 according to rumours.
