AOC as a brand is a newcomer to the Indian market. The brand has been best known for their value products in the past with decent performance pricing, all of which has given them a strong foothold in the market. Off late, there have been several developments in the display space with 3D and LED backlighting technologies and these are being talked about, quite often by these display manufacturers. AOC has a new model - the i2353Ph, a 23-inch LED-backlit display that boasts of an IPS panel, in place of the standard TN panel that’s common on most budget displays.
The specifications of the display are straightforward - it’s a 23-inch display, which supports a full HD resolution of 1920x1080, making it a 16:9 aspect ratio display, like most being sold today. AOC boasts of a contrast ratio of 1000:1 - a more realistic aspect ratio, rather than the unimaginable dynamic contrast ratio numbers being thrown around by all manufacturers. This is not a 3D-enabled monitor, so the refresh rate doesn’t need to cross the 100 or 120 Hz barrier. In terms of connectivity, there aren’t too many options - there is an older D-Sub connector and two HDMI ports, which means you’ll have to use a DVI-to-HDMI convertor on your display adapter to be able to use the display. There are integrated speakers that total up to 4W of power, in all. There’s a 3.5mm audio analog connector.
Connectors built into the stand
The AOC i2353Ph packs an IPS display, which theoretically guarantees better viewing angles and better colours, than TN panels. IPS panels have traditionally been a lot more expensive than standard TN panels. A few years back, a 20-inch IPS panel monitor would cost the same as a 24-inch display. Clearly, prices have dropped and AOC stands to have a really strong product, if the 2353Ph is able to deliver the goods, as far as performance is concerned. AOC rates the power requirements of the monitor at 28W.
Design and build quality
The 2353Ph is thin - really thin and really sleek! Most of its bulk would come from the power adapter that’s integrated on most LCD monitors, but in this case, there’s an external adapter. The entire display is quite flashy and flamboyant. Unlike most other displays that come with a black colour and matte finish, the 2353Ph has a flashy silver finish to it with brush metal paint on a plastic frame. There’s no sign of the model number, anywhere on the display, except for underneath the stand. There are no controls, whatsoever surrounding the display, instead they’re all positioned on the stand.
Touch sensitive buttons on the stand
The stand, itself is unique - while users can’t adjust the height or rotate the display, it can be tilted back and forth quite a bit. The stand houses the input connectors at the back. Unlike most stands that are thin and solid, this one is slightly higher and is almost completely made of plastic. There’s an orange power indicator embedded into the stand of the display. The build quality is not so great, so there’s a bit of flex and creaking. Overall, it looks decent.
The user interface of the AOC i2353Ph is detailed and is easy-to-use. The touch interface on the stand is sensitive and effective. Using the interface is easy and it takes no more than a few minutes to get used to it. RGB controls are available, so tweaking the display is accurate.
We tried viewing images on the display, and we found the image quality to be excellent. Colours are very natural, even without calibration. Video quality of movies is good. There is a good amount of detail that can be seen in HD content, but what’s more impressive are the colours. Once calibrated, the colours do get toned down a bit, so they appear more natural. If you like sharp, very saturated images, you might be a tad disappointed. Fast action movies appear like there’s a slight blur in the motion. This is negligible, though. There is no input lag, either.
The speakers on the i2353Ph aren’t very loud so we’d recommend using earphones or headphones with the PC instead. There isn’t much detail but they’re fine for very casual music listening sessions.
The AOC i2353Ph is a good product, overall - it’s a somewhat affordable 23-inch IPS panel display. Priced at Rs.14,990 in India, it's a tad more expensive than most TN panel monitors of this size.
A 23-inch IPS panel, finally for the masses!
We would have liked slightly better build quality, when it comes to the stand and maybe the speakers could have been a tad louder and detailed. Apart from that, this is one very good monitor, if you’re looking for performance.
The revolutionary i2353Ph monitor has a brushed-metallic surface texture，a super slim display body measuring just 9.2mm thin and a slim, transparent crystal stand to further enhance its futuristic styling. The base has illuminated soft-touch controls, and can tilt to transform into a sleek wall mount (VESA standard), allowing the panel to seemingly float in space. Futuristic technology is more than just an impression, i2353Ph has a cutting-edge IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, a superior type of screen that offers consistent image appearance and colours across the entire display, even from extreme viewing angles. Contrast ratio is ultra high at 50,000,000:1 (DCR). i2353ph is equipped with multiple power saving features for reduced environmental impact, whilst the LED backlight contains no toxic mercury, ensuring safer disposal when it is eventually retired – although its pleasing design and excellent image quality should ensure a long period of rewarding service. Twin HDMI ports and a traditional analog (VGA) input allow flexible connection to multiple computers and other multimedia devices, allowing i2353Ph to be a versatile display in every home and work setting. i2353Ph is outstandingly capable and impressively adaptable. Its unique characteristics reveal the next generation is already here, ready to present a thrilling future!
