Nokia Lumia 610 launched for Rs 12,999

by Jul 6, 2012

Nokia has finally launched its much-awaited low-cost Lumia smartphone — the Nokia Lumia 610 — in India for Rs 12,999, reports IBN-Live.

The Nokia phone has a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash. The phone also has 8 GB memory, but no micro-SD slot. Instead the phone offers Microsoft SkyDrive cloud storage. As far as memory goes,  the smartphone has 256 MB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon single core processor clocked at 800 MHz.

The Nokia Lumia 610 runs on Windows Phone 7.5 operating system. Users can use the phone as a WiFi Hotspot for up to 5 WiFi-enabled devices.

Nokia also announced a limited edition Dark Knight Rises Nokia Lumia 800 phone. Only 200 units of the special edition device will be available in India. Unlike speculated reports Nokia did not launch its flagship Lumia 900 in India.

As far as low-cost goes, the Lumia 610 is still a mid-range phone by all comparisons. For instance Samsung’s Galaxy Y costs only Rs 8000 but it has a 3 mega-pixel camera unlike Lumia’s 5 megapixel one. Galaxy Y offers 8 GB space like Nokia’s Lumia 610 but unlike Lumia it has 32GB expandable memory.

Will the Lumia 610 help Nokia make any gains in India’s smartphone market? That remains to be seen.
