YouTube uniformly rolls out its new look

It's about time that the video sharing service, YouTube got an overhaul. It seems to be going with parent company, Google's own colour scheme with the grey-black navigation bar on the left and a basic grey and white scheme. Thumbnails have also been made bigger. The new YouTube is very focused on channels and wants you to add channels to your profile. In the left hand navigation bar, the first thing you'll see is the Add Channels icon. The next icons you'll see are the Google+ icon (predictable) and the Facebook icon (a little surprising, but makes sense). These icons link your YouTube account to your respective social network account. The homepage also includes video updates from Google+ friends.

News about YouTube's redesign surfaced in mid-November, however, it is only now that they have started uniformly rolling it out. The left hand side with featured videos was also a guess along with customizable sizing for the video viewer. The video viewer does indeed have one size in between regular and full screen.

As mentioned earlier, their big focus in the redesign is Channels. When you click on Add Channels, you will be taken to a page with a selection of Channels in the main body and Channel categories in the left hand bar. Categories include Top Blogs, Beauty and Fashion, Causes and Non-profits, Music, Vlog Stars and more. When you subscribe to a Channel, updates from that Channel will be added to your homepage, in between posts from your Google+ friends. YouTube also recently added an Analytics tool and is trying to defeat television with its multiple content deals for Channels. The result is a cleaner look with a very specific focus.
