In March this year, YouTube rolled out a new look for channels called YouTube One Channel. It aimed to to make channels look good on all screen sizes and devices while letting channel creators customise how videos and playlists are organised to best fit their channel strategies.
Now ready for prime time, YouTube has announced that it will be launching One Channel across all channels come June 5. Allison Bransfield, Product Specialist at YouTube, says that those who do not opt for it by then will be automatically and permanently ushered into the new design. Nearing uniform launch date
On its part, YouTube will give users several reminders so they're well aware of the approaching date and the changes it would bring.
One Channel also lets users create a trailer for their channel. This trailer will play for any visitor who isn't a subscriber yet. Users can consider it as an opportunity to get a visitor hooked to their channel and eventually turn them into subscribers. YouTube suggests users should "treat this trailer as if it were an ad." Users can also create and upload attractive channel art if they want to give their channels a visual identity.
In the post, YouTube claims that those channels that have already switched to the new look "are experiencing several benefits".
"Their branding shines through in more places because Channel Art is visible on iOS apps, Android apps and TV. For the channels that have opted in, we’ve seen 20% more page views on their channels because clicks from the YouTube guide go directly to their channel pages instead of to their activity feeds," it goes on to add.
