YouTube for iOS update brings along live video streaming

YouTube for iOS has received a great new update thanks to which you will now be able to access live streams on your device and also be able to queue videos for playback on your TV sets.

The live stream is by far the most important feature that has been added to the iOS version of the video streaming app. YouTube 1.3 for iOS will allow you to watch concerts, sporting events and other live events on your iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads now, without the need to switch your PC on. You will now be able to stream that IPL match live on your iPhone when you don’t have access to a TV.

Earlier, YouTube had added the option to let you “send to TV” which will let you watch content from YouTube on a bigger screen. With this update, you can now queue videos specifically for playback on the TV screen. Just sit back, queue your favourite videos and keep watching them without the need to keep adding new ones.

Bringing the iOS app up to speed with its Android counterpart, Google has added some abilities from the Android update to this one. You will now be able to access all your subscribed channels in one stream, quite like you can in the Android version of YouTube now. You can access this option by swiping your homescreen to the right. This will show up the most recent videos uploaded by channels you subscribe to as your main screen.

Earlier, you could see videos from channels you had subscribed to, but only one channel at a time. This is bound to save a lot more time, making it convenient to go through your favourite channels at once.

Like it is with every Google update, the update for YouTube for iOS is bringing about stability and performance improvements too.

YouTube is providing YouTube One Channel branding to video creator channels on the app as well. The One Channel is a new look that aims to make channels look good on all screen sizes and devices. It allows channel creators to customise how videos and playlists are organised to best fit their channel strategies.

According to YouTube, One Channel creators can leverage the new look to turn more visitors into subscribers by controlling what visitors watch when they click on a channel from the Guide. The One Channel also lets you create a trailer for your channel. This trailer will play for any visitor who isn't a subscriber yet. Users can consider it as an opportunity to get a visitor hooked to their channel, and eventually turn them into subscribers. YouTube suggests users should "treat this trailer as if it were an ad."
