In late January this year, Xiaomi was rumoured to bring in an update to the Redmi Pro smartphone and details of the successor were leaked in a presentation slide. While the launch never happened, the smartphone has popped up yet again.
The handset was reportedly seen in a listing on an online retail site by the name of Taobao with pricing and specifications that match to the previously leaked information. The listing mentions two storage and RAM variants including one with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage with a price tag of CNY 1,799 (Rs 18,000 approx) and one with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage priced at CNY 1,599 (Rs 16,000 approx).
The new listing does confirm that the smartphone could feature a MediaTek Helio P25 chipset. Previous leaks suggested that the Redmi Pro 2 would feature an OLED display and a 4,500 mAh battery. It also suggested that the smartphone will come with a brushed metal finish at the back and skip the dual-camera for a single lens with improved specs. It will feature a new sensor, the 12MP Sony IMX 362. This is a 1/2.55” sensor with large 1.4µm pixels and Dual Pixel auto-focus.
Xiaomi has been making news for its upcoming flagship, the Mi 6, which is expected to launch this month.
