Chinese smartphone maker and electronics giant **Xiaomi** is likely to launch a new smartphone in the Indian market on 14th March. Global VP for Xiaomi and the Managing Director for Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain took to his Twitter handle to tease the launch well in advance. He added in the tweet that the device will be ‘Slim, sleek and compact!’ while managing to be a ‘true super power house!’. The image accompanying the tweet shows an outline of a device with a tall display with compact bezels. Judging by Xiaomi’s other launches this year, the phone likely has an 18:9 display.

It is likely that the company is launching the  Xiaomi Redmi 5 but we would only be speculating at this point in time. Xiaomi India has not announced any details about the upcoming device at the time of writing. [caption id=“attachment_4382395” align=“alignnone” width=“1280”]Xiaomi Redmi 5. Image: Xiaomi[/caption] The Xiaomi Redmi 5, launched in China, packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC with a CPU clocked at up to 1.8 GHz along with an Adreno 506 graphics chip. The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch screen HD+ resolution (1440 x 720), 282 PPI, 450 nits brightness and an 18:9 screen ratio. Given that the company launched two variants of the device in China, we can expect the same in India. The variants include a 2 GB / 16 GB option and a 3 GB / 32 GB option. On the connectivity front, the device will come with Dual Nano-SIMs, a microSD card, GPS and Bluetooth v4.2. The smartphone will also come with a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. This comes weeks after the company launched its budget and mid-range devices, the **Xiaomi Redmi Note 5** and the **Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro** . The company already launched the **Redmi 5A** back in November last year.
