Vivo could beat Apple to a fingerprint reader embedded into a smartphone display

While all eyes are on Apple this September as the popular technology brand prepares to unveil its tenth anniversary iPhone 8 (or iPhone X) this year, Chinese smartphone maker Vivo could steal some of its thunder. According to multiple reports, Vivo is not only working on a new smartphone with the latest Snapdragon chipset, but one that also features a bezel-less display along with a fingerprint reader embedded right into it. GizChina, spotted a leaked video on Chinese social network Weibo that clearly shows off a Vivo smartphone being unlocked by simply placing a finger on the device’s display. Vivo X11 The operation is fairly quick and the device seems to unlock promptly upon detecting a fingerprint that it appears to be reading via a designated spot on the working area of the display. Indeed, this hints at a technology many are expecting from Apple this year, one that uses a fingerprint reader that is **embedded right into the display** reducing the need to have thick bottom bezels on the front to house the fingerprint reader, like on current day iPhone models. In another leak by Android Headlines, an industry insider said that the Chinese smartphone maker would soon reveal its Vivo X11 smartphone that would arrive in two sizes (just like the competition) and feature almost bezel-less displays that could mimic the **Samsung Galaxy S8** and LG G6. Image: iDrop News[/caption] The display according to the insider will feature extremely thin top and bottom bezels with edge-to-edge displays on left and right sides. Additionally, Vivo is also said to crank up the resolution of these displays. Again, this would be similar to what we are expecting from Apple according to leaked **schematics** , a number of rumours and the plenty of renders. Apart from the bezel-less display and fingerprint reader, the Vivo X11 is also expected to arrive with a **Qualcomm Snapdragon 660** inside. The device will be paired with 8 GB RAM. The internal storage is expected to be 64 GB, but this is one area that has yet to be finalised.
