Updated iMacs may Ship as Early as Next Week

Apple’s iPhones and iPads are already ruling the roost in their respective arenas, but one product that was somewhat ignored during the tablet and phone madness was the iMac. Well, not anymore.

Time to get Refreshed!

Time to get Refreshed!

According to 9to5Mac
, the iMac will receive its much needed refresh somewhere next week. Apple has been stopping shipments to customers citing unexpected delays. Rumours suggest that the refresh will include Intel’s Sandy Bridge Processors as well as the brand new Thunderbolt I/O. Other sources also expect Solid State Drives to make an appearance in lieu with traditional Hard Drives.

The Thunderbolt I/O which was developed by Apple and Intel is a new optical interface which will support almost every kind of digital video output interface and with its 10Gbps transfer speed, users will be able to transfer a full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds or backup a year of continuous MP3 playback in just over 10 mins.

While the new CPUs and Interfaces can only be a good thing, the iMacs do need a makeover as the current design is a bit too long in the tooth.
