UPDATE: Samsung I9003 Galaxy SL Now Available on Flipkart

UPDATE: It looks like the Galaxy SL is now available for pre-order on Flipkart for an absolutely mouthwatering price of Rs. 19,499. We're still to hear anything official from Samsung about the phone, but rest assured we'll let you know as soon as we do.

Either way, this is effectively a price cut for the excellent Galaxy S. Sure, you'll miss out on the Super AMOLED screen, but the rest of specs are nearly identical (apart from the internal memory which is only 4GB - thanks Shantanu Paul for the correction), and you get Android 2.2 FroYo pre-loaded. Real bargain, no?

Remember taking a sneak peak at the Galaxy S2? Well this new smartphone has got nothing to do with it. It doesn’t succeed the Galaxy S, but we just found out that the Galaxy SL I9003 has showed up on Samsung's Middle East and Asia site.

Galaxy S? What's that?

Galaxy S? What's that?

One of the main features is that the I9003 has a Super Clear LCD screen. This will help Samsung manufacture AMOLED panels for the Galaxy S2 without discontinuing the Galaxy S. As with most other smartphones releasing nowadays, Galaxy SL will run on Android Froyo. The smartphone is powered by a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. A peek under the hood of the Galaxy SL reveals the following:

  • 4-inch Super LCD Touchscreen at a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, HSDPA, HSUPA, A-GPS
  • Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP
  • 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus
  • 16 GB internal storage (4GB in India) expandable up to 32 GB
  • FM radio with RDS
  • 3.5 mm audio jack

The rest of the features include an Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor, Digital Compass and the smartphone also has social networking integration. Also the display is strengthened by Gorilla Glass. The Galaxy SL also includes Social Networking Integration and has in-built apps like Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Talk.

With all these specs looking good, there’s still no mention of when and where the Galaxy SL will actually release and the same goes for the price, but we'll keep you updated.
