Tizen-powered Samsung Z4 launched in India at Rs 5,790

Samsung Mobile India has announced its all-new Samsung Z4 smartphone. The smartphone is an entry-level device that is priced at Rs 5,790. What makes it so special is that it runs on Tizen 3.0, Samsung's own home-brewed OS, which comes with its own set of apps.

The device will be available in offline stores starting 19 May and will arrive in a single, black finish with two replaceable back panels in black and gold.

Indeed, the Samsung Z4 is supposed to be a smartphone, but it will mainly bridge the gap between feature phone users and first time smartphone buyers, because it does not pack in the commonly used Android mobile OS by Google. This of course means that you won't have access to the myriad apps and games on the Google Play Store.

The design seems rather practical, with the Z4 comprising of a glass display on the front, a plastic frame and a replaceable plastic back panel.

Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Z4 packs in a 4.5-inch WVGA (480x800 pixels) display with a 2.5D curved edge glass on top. Inside, there's a quad-core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz that is paired with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The internal storage can be expanded up to 128 GB using a microSD card.

The entry-level smartphone features a 5 MP camera on the back and the front. Interestingly, both units are identical (with an f/2.2 aperture) and also feature an LED flash unit.

Connectivity options include 4G radios with VoLTE support (on a dual SIM set up), Wi-Fi 802 11b/g/n 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, GPS and Glonass.

All of the above is powered by a 2,050 mAh battery and the handset weighs in at 143 grams.
