After the recent wrap up of the critically-acclaimed Walking Dead series by Telltale Games, it's now another developer's turn to add a new spin to the games. Developer Gamagio has released The Walking Dead: Assault for iOS devices. The game costs Rs 110 and is compatible with iPhones from the 3GS onwards; iPod Touch from the third generation onwards; and the iPad. The game requires the device to be running iOS 4.3 or later.
While Telltale's game focused on new characters, Gamagio’s take focuses on the characters from the comic series. Much like Telltale's game, Assault will also be episodic, with the first chapter, titled Days Gone Bye, available now. Here is the story of Days Gone Bye: "Beginning the moment Rick awakes in hospital in issue #1, events of the game take you from those first isolated moments, through Atlanta, and ultimately to the horrific camp invasion that costs the survivors valuable allies and friends."
Assault the zombies and survive in this iOS game
The Walking Dead: Assault is a strategy-RPG in the vein of games like XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Borderlands: Legends. It features locations and characters from the comic series and has a level-up system where you can improve your characters depending on your playing style. The game also features iOS Game Center achievements.
Telltale's The Walking Dead concluded in November with the final episode, No Time Left. Back in October, it was revealed that the Walking Dead series is set to be released as a boxed copy for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. The boxed copy will be released on December 4, 2012, and will cost approximately Rs 1,600.
In October, Telltale released Episode 4 of the series, which was the penultimate episode. In this installment, in the wake of terrible loss, the group arrives in Savannah in search of a boat and escape from the horrors around them. Stalked by an unseen human threat and the constant menace of the undead, Lee must decide how to deal with an increasingly paranoid group, and above all, how to protect Clementine. The trailer gives some hints of the story, such as some mysterious “mad man” on the radio and a character, presumably a girl, dressed in red beating up the main character. Along with the trailer, Telltale has also released some screenshots for The Walking Dead: Episode 4 – Around Every Corner.
The main story of the Walking Dead universe is that zombies have overrun most of America and a ragtag bunch of survivors must do whatever it takes to survive. The comics tread a very dark path by highlighting some truly unspeakable acts by the humans, as opposed to the zombies. Though the game’s tone isn’t quite that dark, there are still glimpses of it in the first episode.
