The new roster boasts of more than 50 playable characters and in one match, a maximum of four characters can be used at the same time. A new Tag Challenge mode made possible by Tag Assault allows two characters to attack, or two characters to throw at the same time. This is in addition to the normal two vs two tag fight or the Tekken basic one vs one fight. The game caters to all kinds of other playing modes such as one vs two fights. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had earlier received a trailer that showed off some of the characters that will be in the game.
Who will be the new winner of the King of Iron Fist Tournament?!
Some classic characters from the Tekken series are making a comeback in the new game in the form of two pre-order bonuses. Michelle Chang, trained by Julia, is an expert at fighting in the Kenpo style. Kunimitsu, an ex-member of a ninja clan, is an expert in the ninjitsu fighting style. Ancient Ogre is a mysterious entity from an ancient time. Not much is known about him except that he may be an “ancient universal fighting weapon". Ogre roams the world, looking for a true adversary to match his strength in fighting.
The Tekken series has been one of the most well known fighting games. It is especially famous in the tournament scene in Japan. Almost every character is based on a realistic fighting style and plays to the strengths and weaknesses of their style. For example, the character King is a professional wrestler, so most of his moves revolve around grappling. Another example is the main protagonist of the series’ long and convoluted story, Jin Kazama. Jin fights in the traditional karate fighting style, without any flashy combos.
The series is extremely different from rival offerings such as Capcom’s Street Fighter series, by virtue of being set in 3-dimensional stages, where players have more options for movement than just right, left and up. Players can side-step to dodge attacks or set up long combos. Also, one of the main differences between the Street Fighter series and the Tekken series is the combo system in which the former relies on movement for your attacks, while the latter relies on long strings of punches and kicks.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available on PS3 and XBOX360 for Rs. 2999 after release. Pre-ordering the game will cost Rs. 2,499.
