DuckDuckGo ready for search competition with upcoming major design revamp

One of the major competitors of Google is all set to get a revamp. DuckDuckGo is readying for a new avatar to offer better search results and functionality to its users.

A post on company’s blog says, “This next version of DuckDuckGo focuses on smarter answers and a more refined look. We've also added many new features you've been requesting like images, auto-suggest, places and more. Of course, your privacy is protected as well!”

The first thing that is noticeable is the new UI. Earlier there was just a search box with button. The new proposed look of the search engine is still neat and comprises of three new buttons beneath the search box: Use in Chrome, Set as Homepage and Learn More.

The post further adds that are some issues that are needed to be sorted out before it is rolled out for public. As of now, all instant answers are not yet working. Besides, the setting page will also undergo an overhaul.

Another area which will see a change is the search results page. Earlier, the results were displayed with no demarcation. But the snapshot shared in the blog post shows search results split into images, videos and an about tab. The folks at DuckDuckGo are also looking to offer the convenience of watching a video right in the search result rather than going to the page where it is hosted, which is by far the coolest thing in the update.

The post further goes on to mention that the new DuckDuckGo will be hopefully ready by next month with complete functionality.

What makes DuckDuckGo special is that they don’t track users and the information they’re searching. This is a major issue many feel, when it comes to Google or other mainstream search engines. Search results are filtered and catered to your profile. DuckDuckGo is a more classical search engine without any of that. DuckDuckGo also does not filter out pages because of their ranking so you’re likely to get content from not so popular sites more often.
