Ever since it was shown off during this year’s E3, Naughty Dog’s next game, titled The Last Of Us, is being looked forward to by many. During the recent PAX Prime event, Naughty Dog showed off some of the gameplay of the PlayStation 3 exclusive title. The video shows the stealth gameplay and some of the puzzles, and a little bit of the combat segments, including what at least looks like a scripted event where an enemy takes a gun from your hand and captures you.
The survival action hybrid game was officially announced last year in December at Spike’s VGA awards. The story, much like Will Smith’s movie I am Legend, takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly plague has wiped out civilisation, mutating the survivors into zombie-like creatures. You play as one of two characters – Ellie, a spunky American teenager or Joel, a hardened survivor – as they try and survive every day by scavenging ammunition and supplies. According to Naughty Dog, the game will blend survival horror with Naughty Dog’s bombastic brand of action to create a "genre defining experience".
Naughty Dog has previously worked on and gained massive fame for the Uncharted series. One of the flagship games for Sony’s PlayStation 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, has been out for quite some time now. The game was one of the biggest hits of last year and bagged multiple Game of the Year awards. Now, Sony is set to re-release the game in a “Game of the Year” edition, which contains all the downloadable content (DLC) that was released for the game.
More gameplay from PAX Prime
Sony made the announcement for the Game of the Year edition of Uncharted 3 in a blog post on the PlayStation Europe blog. The blog post lists the release date for the game in Europe as September 19, 2012. Developed exclusively for PlayStation 3 by Naughty Dog, the Game of the Year Edition combines Nathan Drake’s third critically acclaimed adventure, with additional pieces of multiplayer DLC, handpicked by the team for the release.
A quick recap for newcomers: Drake’s third adventure catapults the adventurer headlong into a dangerous search for the fabled relic, “Atlantis of the Sands”, with Drake travelling around the streets of London, a burning French chateau and the heart of the Arabian Desert. The game pits Drake and his mentor Victor Sullivan against an occult organisation and its ruthless leader, Katherine Marlowe. While this may not be the sort of thing that fans of the series might want, since they probably already have the game and have played it many many times, it might be a great way to convince gamers who haven’t yet bought the latest game in the Uncharted franchise.
