Sony Ericsson's plan to upgrade their Xperia range of handsets to Google’s latest operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich isn't news. A few days ago, the company through their official blog announced that 11 handsets from their 2011 range of Sony Ericsson Xperia smartphones would receive this upgrade. However, there was no mention as to when the update to the handsets would actually happen. Now, PhoneArena reports that Maurizio de Palma, the Marketing Manager of Sony Ericsson Italy posted on Facebook that Ice Cream Sandwich update is due to arrive by around March 2012.
Sony Ericsson looking to get ICS soon
He went to add that the code for Google’s latest OS was released only on November 15th, this year and that it would take a while to code everything to update the 2011 line of Xperia smartphones. He states that even March seems like an ambitious goal for them, but they're hoping to make that happen.
As of now, no other smartphone manufacturer has given any sort of timeline as to when their handsets will receive the Android 4.0 update and it appears that Sony Ericsson may be the first manufacturer to rollout the update to their 2011 range of Xperia handsets.
