Sapphire has launched a new Pure Black 990FX motherboard for the latest line of AMD processors. The Pure Black 990FX is a full ATX motherboard based on AMD’s 990FX chipset. The board has AMD’s AM3+ socket, but is backward compatible with old processors as well. The motherboard comes with four memory slots that can house up to 16GB of DDR3 memory in them. This can be upgraded to 32GB when 8GB DIMMs are available. The board supports USB 3.0 and SATA 3 as well. Six PCI-Express are provided on the motherboard, which should come handy, if you want to setup a three-way CrossFireX system.
Sapphire makes a splash into motherboard market
There are a variety of other features implemented in the motherboard, such as an UEFI BIOS along with their Mainboard TriXX software that helps monitor temperatures and other information about the board. Sapphire boasts of using gold plated connectors and using a multilayer PCB for their motherboards.
Sapphire is best known for manufacturing graphics cards. This would be the first time Sapphire would be getting into the motherboard market. Sapphire states that the product is still under production. There are no prices disclosed as of now and when the product will be available in the market.
