Samsung working on 16-megapixel Galaxy S4 Zoom

Ever focused on expanding the Galaxy line-up of devices, Samsung seems to be working on a new smartphone, according to SamMobile. The unique thing about this smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy S4 Zoom, is that it seems to be Samsung's first attempt at a camera-centric Android smartphone. It will be using a 16 megapixel camera sensor, similar to the one on the Galaxy Camera, but whether or not the actual sensor itself will be different is yet to be seen.

The S4 Zoom will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen with a qHD resolution, which is considerably smaller than the 5-inch full HD screen on the S4. The S4 Zoom is said to have 8GB of internal storage and a microSD slot that can be used to expand memory up to 64GB. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi and A-GPS. It will come out of the box running on Android Jelly Bean with Samsung's own TouchWiz Nature UX. The processor and RAM haven't yet been decided on, but it will be a safe bet to assume at least 1GB of RAM and either a dual-core or a quad-core processor.

Expect all of them to look like the S4

It is rumoured  that Samsung will be unveiling the S4 Zoom before the summer ends and the phone itself is said to hit store shelves around June/July. The codename of the handset is SM-C1010, and it will be available in black and white colour options.

There also seem to be other handsets in the works that will expand the S4 line-up. Alongside the S4 Zoom, we can expect the S4 Mini and the S4 Active.

The S4 Mini will be a lot like the S3 Mini that was launched late last year. It will be a smaller and less powerful, but more affordable version of the S4, and will undoubtedly have many of the same features courtesy of Samsung's TouchWiz UX. The codename for the S4 Mini is said to be GT-I9192. Like the S4 Zoom and the S4, it will be available in black and white colour options.

The S4 Active is said to be a ruggedised version of the S4. It will have a shock-resistant design and will probably bear the IP certifications to make it water proof and dust proof. The handset's codename is GT-I9295 and will be available in Metallic Orange.
