Rovio, Lucas Films partner to release Angry Birds Star Wars

Recently, Rovio appeared to be planning a version of Angry Birds based on Star Wars as it teased an image on the official Angry Birds Tumblr page showing the red bird dressed in a Jedi cloak and armed with a lightsaber. A recent report has shed some light on the Star Wars based Angry Birds by stating that the brands will team up to offer a range of toys, games, other merchandise. Also, another edition of the Angry Birds franchise titled Angry Birds Star Wars is in the offing.

As per a report published on, “In Angry Birds Star Wars, a totally new edition of the game out Nov. 8 for iOS, Android and computers, the birds and pigs alike will take on the personalities of characters from the Star Wars saga. "They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters," says Paul Southern, vice president of licensing and consumer products marketing for Lucasfilm Ltd. "They are characters in their own right."

Lohud reports further that the Big Red will be modelled on Luke Skywalker from Star Wars Episode IV. Chewbecca, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi have found spin-off as the birds in the game. The bad guys -- the pigs -- are obviously modelled on Darth Vader and the entities on the "dark side".

Anger leads to the dark side!

The Tumblr page of Angry Birds hints that fans should head over to Times Square, New York, October 8, 10 a.m. EST, where it is believed that Rovio Entertainment and Lucas Films will preview the game. The brands will also release a range of toys that are based on the game. These will include games such as Star Wars Angry Birds, Jenga Death Star, Star Wars Angry Birds At-At Attack Battle Game, Star War Angry Birds collectibles, plush toys, as well as costumes for kids based on this mash-up that will be a great option for this upcoming Halloween.

On September 27, Rovio Entertainment released its newest game, Bad Piggies, for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC. Told from the pigs’ point of view, this innovative game lets fans build amazing machines that crawl, roll, crash, and fly the pigs to the eggs!

“We’ve never done anything like this,” said Petri Järvilehto, EVP of Games. “Where Angry Birds was all about destruction, Bad Piggies is all about the joy of construction. It’s not just about getting three stars -- in this game, failing is almost as much fun as succeeding!”

The game is set on Piggy Island, where the Bad Piggies are after the eggs again -- but as usual, nothing is going according to plan. They need help in creating the ultimate flying machine and steering it safely to their destination.
