RIM to Launch BlackBerry Messenger App for Android and iOS

There are probably a million (okay that might sound exaggerated, but 999,999 should be a more accurate figure) smartphone users out there who contemplate switching to a BlackBerry smartphone for that one dedicated app that RIM has, the BlackBerry Messenger service. While some settle for WhatsApp, others decide to take the plunge. But it looks like RIM is willing to give a hand over here.

BoyGeniusReport have a few “trusted” sources that talk about RIM launching an official BlackBerry Messenger app, although there hasn’t been a word yet on the price. So users with the BBM app on their smartphone can message practically anyone on their contact list who has the app. While that’s the good news, RIM might not give non-BlackBerry users a lot of love. This app will be a watered down version of the original BBM app that BlackBerry users have access to. So although there’s messaging, users won’t be able to share photos, locations or videos. For that wholesome experience, you’ll have to use a BlackBerry.

It seems to be a certainty that an Android version is underway and might launch this year. But it won’t take long for iPhone users to see the BBM light either.
