Resident Evil 6 to have a fourth campaign and a new game mode

One of the most popular videogame franchises in the horror genre has always been Capcom’s Resident Evil series. Created by Shinji Mikami, the premise of the original Resident Evil was that the Umbrella Corporation was conducting sinister experiments in a mansion outside Raccoon City and a SWAT-like team called the Special Tactics and Rescue Service, or STARS, stumbles onto it while investigating several cannibalistic murders. Further games expanded on this premise, and it has since become one of the most successful action-horror games series of all time, in addition to coining the term Survival Horror.

The latest game in the series, Resident Evil 6, was originally set to have three playable characters, Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Jake Muller, all three with their own storylines that will eventually converge. Recently though, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, has revealed that Resident Evil 6 will feature a fourth campaign that will be unlockable. The fourth campaign will feature Ada Wong as a playable character and will be unlocked once the three main campaigns of the game have been cleared. In an interview with Famitsu, executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi talked about some of the details about Ada’s campaign. “Ada’s story will clear up the mysteries from the other scenarios,” said Kobayashi. “Her scenario is played solo, without a partner character. When playing as Leon and the other main characters, you may end up encountering other players who are controling Ada.” Here is a video showing a level from Ada's campaign.

The story for the three main characters is set fifteen years after the Raccoon City incident. US President Adam Benford is ready to reveal everything about it, but when Leon Kennedy arrives to discuss the revelation, he finds the President transformed into a monster beyond recognition by a bioterrorist attack, which forces him to make an unberable decision. He is also caught in the middle of a massive bioattack on the American town of Tall Oaks, and must find the person responsible for the attacks with the help of a Secret Service agent who is hiding her own secrets. Halfway around the globe, BSAA agent Chris Redfield arrives in Lanshiang, a coastal area in China, to help suppress another bioterrorist threat. No place or person seems safe from these attacks, and this knowledge has united Earth's population under the common fear of seeing mankind face extinction. A third story will follow a mercenary named Jake Muller as he teams up with Sherry Birkin. Jake harbours something in his blood that may be mankind's only hope for stopping the global outbreak of the newly-discovered C-Virus. Jake also seems to be the legacy of the late Albert Wesker, as he has another name: Wesker Jr.

Another big feature, unlocked by completing the main three campaigns, is a new game mode called ‘Agent Hunt’, where players take control of the AI-controlled creatures and enter other players’ games through online play. The main goal of the game mode is to defeat the player-controlled agents. There will be a warning for players when a human-controlled enemy enters the game, but they will not be told which creature the other player is controlling. When more than one player invades the same game, they can use voice chat to form strategies with each other. The Agent Hunt mode will include a special leaderboard. The game mode can be turned off at any time if you don’t want other players to invade your game. Here is a video showing off the Agent Hunt game mode.

Resident Evil 6 will be released for consoles on October 20, and PC will see a release during November.
