Sony has announced on its PlayStation Blog that the release date for the Last of Us has been pushed back. The new release date, according to Sony, is June 14, 2013. According to the blog post, this is because the game is developer Naughty Dog’s most ambitious project yet.
"As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards," states the blog post.
According to Sony, The Last of Us is set to have the biggest campaign that Naughty Dog has ever made, even compared to the Uncharted games. The studio may be facing issues in the final leg of development because of the IP being completely new, consisting of a new universe and new characters in a new genre.
The fight for survival has been pushed back to June
Back in December, Naughty Dog had introduced a new character in The Last of Us. Partner for the main character—Joel—Tess is described as strong, smart and street savvy. She is going to be a pivotal character in the world of The Last of Us. She is voiced by Annie Wersching of 24 fame. Naughty Dog had released a trailer that shows the motion capture for Tess.
Earlier, the company had released a story trailer for The Last of Us. Naughty Dog has also let it slip that the game will feature multiplayer. Pre-ordering the game will get you the Sights and Sounds pack, which includes the official soundtrack of the game, a dynamic theme for the PlayStation 3 featuring the cover art and two avatars for your PSN profile—Winter Joel and Winter Ellie.
The multiplayer was revealed through the pre-order bonuses for GameStop, which features the Survival Pack. This includes bonus experience points for multiplayer, a multiplayer melee attack booster, extra in-game cash to start out with, special customisable character items for multiplayer and two bonus skins for Joel and Ellie, which are unlocked after completing the single player campaign.
Naughty Dog has previously worked on and gained massive fame for the Uncharted series. One of the flagship games for Sony’s PlayStation 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, has been out for quite some time now. The game was one of the biggest hits of 2011 and bagged multiple Game of the Year awards.
