**RCom** is restructuring its mobile telecom units to separate the GSM and CDMA businesses. A report by The Times of India reveals that the company is separating the growing GSM business from the trailing CDMA. In fact, it reportedly plans to sell off the CDMA business in the future. This separation is believed to be a part of the company’s third restructuring exercise since December 2011. It’s also believed to be taking place to ensure a well-planned strategy for CDMA technology, which is dwindling globally for voice yet highly effective when it comes to data. The company is looking at a more region-focussed strategy, so that it can push GSM for voice and CDMA for data services accordingly. A source also said that the company is looking for a prospective buyer for its CDMA division. RCom holds the CDMA license for the next six years and that could be useful to any company that plans to launch 3G services using that technology. Moreover, the in-flow of cash will help RCom clear its debt, which was about Rs 41,170 crore by the end of September. Though the company recorded net profit in he second quarter of the financial year, it is still struggling with the debts. The company has teamed up with **Reliance Jio Infocomm** , which is likely to bring around Rs 800 crore annually. Industry sources related to the matter have revealed to the publication that Nilanjan Mukherjee - the current chief marketing officer- is likely to join as the head the CDMA business. Bharti Airtel’s ex-zonal head Ramesh Menon will handle company’s GSM business. Mukherjee and Menon will be reporting to Gurdeep Singh, who is the current chief of the company’s wireless operations. The separation of businesses will also bring in some new employees on board. Amit Das from Vodafone India will be company’s human resources head; Munish Kanotra, Bharti Airtel’s ex-senior vice president will lead the company’s post-paid and data business and Deepak Khanna from Tulip will manage the enterprise segment. Moreover, Shamik Das, who is the chief operating officer of the overall company, will be assigned a new designation.
