PlayStation Store gets new Indie Games category

The PlayStation Store has just become even more attractive for indie developers. Continuing its indie initiative, Sony has added an “Indie Games” category to the PlayStation Store. All the Indie titles available for Sony’s platforms will be visible here, giving gamers a convenient place to browse them.

Pierre Gravereau, Senior Manager, Digital Distribution, posted the announcement on the PlayStation Blog and highlighted the support Sony has offered independent developers by referring to the games that were recently released during the Spring Fever sale on the PlayStation Store.

There's now a complete section dedicated to indie games on the PlayStation Store

He also noted in the comments to the blog post that indie games will not be relegated solely to the Indie Games category and will continue to be showcased on the store homepage and the usual promotional areas. He wrote, “Indie Games will ALSO live in categories such as PSN Games, All PS3 Games, and yes… they will also be from time to time on the store homepage and in our usual promotional areas in addition to now have a section to themeselves. :-)”

Some of the popular indie game titles that will be included in the new category at launch include Journey, Guacamelee and Unfinished Swan. Sony is also offering special deals on a few titles to celebrate the launch: Retro City Rampage is on a 50 percent discount to everyone until May 21; the Papo & Yo promotional bundle containing the soundtrack and game is on a 40 percent discount (55 percent for PlayStation Plus subscribers) until May 21; and Zombie Tycoon is free for PlayStation Plus subscribers for a limited time.

Gravereau also said that they intend to offer special deals on indie games regularly, so keep an eye on the new category.
