Online Attacks will become More Destructive by 2015..

Gartner, a reputed IT research firm have warned that cyber attacks will become multi-modal and highly damaging in the future and that even G-20 nations could suffer as a result.

"By 2015, a G20 nation's critical infrastructure will be disrupted and damaged by online sabotage. Online attacks can be multimodal, in the sense of targeting multiple systems for maximum impact, like financial systems (stock exchanges), physical plants (control systems of a chemical, nuclear or electric plant), or mobile communications (mobile message routers)," Managing Vice-President and Gartner fellow Darryl Plummer said in a report titled 'Gartner's Top Predictions for IT Organisations and Users, 2011 and Beyond: IT's Growing Transparency' released here today. "Such a multimodal attack can have lasting effects beyond a temporary disruption, in the same manner that the 9/11 had on the US ," it adds.

More like the Barmy Army

As the warning was set off, Pakistan seemed to bear the brunt almost immediately with about 35 government websites being hacked by a group called the Indian Cyber Army. A message posted by the hackers - who claimed to have gained access to the server hosting government websites - read: "Hacked by Indian Cyber Army". It was accompanied by a photograph of US soldiers raising a flag on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima during World War II but the American flag was digitally transformed into the Indian national flag.
