Nokia creates mini-site to help find apps for Lumia WP8 devices

Ever since Windows Phone 8 came out, Microsoft and Nokia have been pushing the latest operating system with major promotions the world over. In a bid to get users onto its new Windows Phone 8 handsets such as the Lumia 920 and 820, Nokia has teamed up with and created a mini-site that will allow users who are making the switch from an iOS or Android device to find their favourite apps easily.

The process is really simple and all one needs to do is log on to the site, select the OS of their previous handset, choose their country and enter the app they want for the latest Lumia handsets.

As of now, there are only a few countries listed and India is still to get featured on the list. After the relevant information is keyed in, the process is extremely simple. It will show if the particular app is available for the Windows Phone 8 handset. If the app is not available for the platform, then similar apps will be displayed.

This feature can be really useful for those making the switch and wanting to get further acquainted with their new handsets. Apart from this, there is also a QR code displayed alongside the app, which can be scanned so that the app can be directly downloaded to the device.

The mini-site states, “Your favourite apps for your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone are just a download away. Windows Phone already has 46 of the top 50 most popular apps from both iOS and Android. With over 115,000 apps now available on the Windows Phone Marketplace you can find just about anything. Just let XYO know what you were using on your old device and we will look it up for you.”

At the Windows Phone 8 launch event held in late October, Microsoft had stated that the new Windows Phone, with its Start screen and Live Tiles, is highly customisable. Users can pin their favourite people, apps, games and music to the Start screen and colourful Live Tiles will light up with real-time information and updates.

Windows Phone 8 was designed to be the best companion with Windows 8. Windows and Windows Phone now share common underlying technology, which allows for shared tools, increased hardware support for multi-core processors and a wide range of other platform capabilities. It also features a common look and feel with Windows 8, which makes shifting from phone to PC seamless and natural.

Nokia and a handful of other brands have announced smartphones that run on this OS. The Lumia 920 and 820 are the two models that have been released by Nokia to run on this platform, and those making the jump from Android or iOS will find this mini-site extremely helpful as it helps in acquiring all your favourite apps on your new WP8 device.
