The rumour mills are rife as leaked photo of a new LG smartphone has surfaced. The photo of the unnamed LG phone has surfaced courtesy @evleaks. The device is speculated to be either the LG Optimus G2 or the Nexus 5. It could be the LG G2 as the 5-incher smartphone is reportedly slated for Q3 release. However, considering the recent rumours about LG building the next Nexus, the device is also speculated to be the Nexus 5.
G2 or Nexus 5?
The leaked photo shows a buttonless smartphone that comes with a redesigned earpiece and an exceedingly slim bezel. However, not much is known about the smartphone. Previously, we have seen striking similarity between the LG-built Nexus 4 and Optimus G. Allegedly, one of the reasons why Nexus 4 wasn’t officially launched in India was the effect it could have on the sales of the Optimus G. The Optimus G is a spec-for-spec replica of the Nexus 4.
The Optimus G2 was earlier reported to come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display with a pixel density of 440 ppi. Likewise, the rumoured LG Nexus 5 will also be following the 1080p trend and expected to be slightly larger than the Nexus 4 at 5.2 inches. Looking at the release cycle of Google, there are fair chances that the leaked photo could be the next Nexus 5, probably slated for an October release. Going by last year, the Optimus G2 could be a close replica of the Nexus 5. The Optimus G2 is supposedly designed to go head-to-head against the Galaxy S IV, Samsung’s newest high-end smartphone.
While it is quite a guessing game for many, the device could turn out to be either or none of them.
