Naughty Dog has finally released the original trailer for its upcoming post-apocalyptic game—The Last Of Us, which had originally made its debut during the Spike VGAs. The trailer gives us major hints about the story and the importance of the girl. It also shows some of the varied environments that the game will take place over. "We’ve tried to keep the trailer as spoiler-free as possible, while giving you some hints at the tense, emotional narrative the development team has crafted for The Last of Us," says the post on the Sony PlayStation blog.
Along with the trailer, Naughty Dog has also let it slip that the game will feature multiplayer. Pre-ordering the game will get you the Sights and Sounds pack, which includes the official soundtrack of the game, a dynamic theme for the PlayStation 3 featuring the cover art and two avatars for your PSN profile—Winter Joel and Winter Ellie.
The multiplayer was revealed through the pre-order bonuses for GameStop, which features the Survival Pack. This includes bonus experience points for multiplayer, a multiplayer melee attack booster, extra in-game cash to start out with, special customisable character items for multiplayer and two bonus skins for Joel and Ellie, which are unlocked after completing the single player campaign.
The company hasn't given any more details about the multiplayer, but has said that more information will be revealed before the release of the game.
Will have a multiplayer component
The company had released a teaser trailer earlier this month. The only thing we currently know about the story is that it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly plague has wiped out civilisation, mutating the survivors into zombie-like creatures. You play as one of two characters – Ellie, a spunky American teenager, or Joel, a hardened survivor – as they try and survive each day by scavenging ammunition and supplies. According to Naughty Dog, the game will blend survival-horror with action to create a "genre defining experience".
The company also released a playthrough of the demo it displayed during this year's PAX Prime. The video showed the stealth gameplay, some of the puzzles and a little bit of the combat segments, including what looks like a scripted event where an enemy takes a gun from your hand and captures you.
Naughty Dog has previously worked on and gained massive fame for the Uncharted series. One of the flagship games for Sony’s PlayStation 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, has been out for quite some time now. The game was one of the biggest hits of 2011 and bagged multiple Game of the Year awards. Sony has re-released the game in a “Game of the Year” edition, which contains all the downloadable content (DLC) released for the game.
