MSI Unveils First Motherboard With AMD's APU

MSI has announced its first ever motherboard which uses AMD’s new APU technology. For the uninitiated, an APU combines a CPU and a GPU on the same die. This allows for good performance as well as low power consumption.

A CPU and GPU on the same die

The MSI E350IA-E45 motherboard is powered by an E350 APU with 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU and DirectX 11 Radeon HD6310 graphics. It also features two USB 3.0 ports for blazing transfer speeds as well as 4 SATA 6Gbps ports. Since the motherboard is built keeping HTPC users in mind, it also includes and MDI port for streaming hi-def content to your TV or computer display.

There is also an 8-channel (7.1) HD audio subsystem with S/PDIF out and an Ethernet port to complete the list of features. MSI has also added in a custom ‘i-charger’ port that allows allows fast USB charging and syncing of your iPad. Buyers can also use MSI’s own operating system called ‘Winki 3’. It allows users to surf the Web, create documents, edit photos, send instant messages or chat with Skype without running Windows. In the case of a hard-disk failure, Winki 3's built-in HDD recovery program can help you to restore or back-up your valuable data.
