Moojic revives the old school jukebox with a digital touch. Passionate at bringing a product that sits perfectly in the SoLoMo (Social, Local, Mobile) space, founders Neha Behani and Kumaran Mahendran – MBAs from Asian Institute of Management, Philippines - build Moojic after two failed products. Mahendran told Tech2, the idea struck them as they turned up early for a client meeting in a cafe and remembered how the old school jukebox would help while away time while listening to one’s favourite tunes.
Basically, Moojic works just like the jukebox where customers can request to play their favourite songs at a hangout joint, but using their mobile phones. Moojic has partnered with several pubs, cafes and salons including Pop Tates, OnToes, Enrich Salon, Mainland China, Bru World Café and others. One needs to download the Moojic app that is available on the Google Play Store for Android and Apple App store for iOS, and select your location. Users will see a list of places where they can request the song of their choice. After placing their request, they can also share it on social networks. The startup has its own built-in technology and hardware that manages the music and displays a list of songs. However, the playlist can be chosen by the merchants too.
Currently a team of 12, Moojic charges merchants a monthly fee to use the platform. Its mobile app is free for download and doesn’t charge customers for requesting songs. The startup is now looking to create a network of merchants across the country and bring brands in-store.
On a larger scale, the Moojic team is looking at building a hyper-local real world advertising network in the country. The startup will also have a radio network that allows brands to target customers via radio like advertising coupled with in-app based notifications as well, which turns into a revenue channel for merchants as well. It is also planning to expand to other Indian cities and also South East Asian countries.
Though not incubated, Moojic has raised an Angel round from investors that include Rajan Anandan, Managing Director of Google India. The investment was raised when the startup had mere 10-15 customers in April last year. Moojic apps have been live for a little over four months now and the startup has more than 250 active customers.
