Microsoft's newly launched 'cheaper' $799 Surface Laptop is still too expensive

Microsoft has now launched new variants of the Surface Laptop and the Surface Book 2. The new options bring down the base price of both models, which should make them accessible to more buyers.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop which earlier started from $999 is now available at a much lower $799 base model in the US market. While the price sounds exciting, you should know that the new base model now packs in an Intel Core m3 processor (with Intel HD 615 Graphics). This is accompanied by 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, both of which also seem less considering $799 price tag.

Next up is the Surface Book 2, which earlier started at $1,499 but is now available from $1,199. What you get is something that still better than the base Laptop model, with an Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.

While the above pricing and devices are only available for the US, the pricing is still a bit off, as Apple's MacBook Air sells for cheaper and offers more powerful hardware than the Surface Laptop.

Out here in India, Microsoft fans are still waiting for the Surface Book 2 to arrive. Microsoft recently announced that it would be bringing the Surface Book 2 to India by April 2018.

The Surface Book 2 will arrive in India in both 13-inch and 15-inch flavours with the latest 8th generation Intel Core processors. At the time of writing this article, there are no details as to when the Surface Laptops will come to India.
