Microsoft Leads the OS market: Gartner

This is one race that just doesn’t get over, the race for supremacy. Gartner’s latest report bares testimony to one such aspect.

Its latest report documents the rise, and rise of the worldwide OS market. According to figures revealed, the OS market grew to a whopping $30.4 billion in 2010, i.e. it took a good 7.8 per cent leap since its figures posted in the year before. Drilling down further, it was seen that Linux and Mac OS emerged as the OS with the fastest growing base in the server and client OS sections. Microsoft however enjoyed supremacy over the whole OS market with a market share of 78.6 per cent. Linux and Mac OS topped the server and client OS spaces, respectively posting each a share rise of 9.3 per cent and 5.7 per cent.

With Microsoft leading the bunch with a aforementioned share of 78.6 per cent, other players like IBM and HP enjoyed limited share in the market.
