Micromax has made a comeback. The company was missing in action from the smartphone market but today it has finally announced a new flagship smartphone called the Dual 5 that latches onto the ongoing dual-camera smartphone race. The Micromax Dual 5 is camera-centric smartphone that packs mid-range hardware and is priced at Rs 24,999. The device goes on sale on Flipkart and offline channels from 10 April, 2017.
The Micromax Dual 5 features an all-metal design one that looks identical to the Chinese smartphone, Qiku Q5. The design is a uni body metal construction and features with Gorilla Glass 3 screen on the front and a fingerprint reader on the back, in what Micromax calls an "ulta thin" form factor.
On the front you get a 5.5-inch Full HD Amoled display with a 13MP selfie camera sitting right above it. There's a USB Type C port at the bottom as well, that supports Quick Charge 3.0 for the 3,200mAh battery inside.
Inside, you get a Qualcomm MSM 8976 or Snapdragon 652 SoC coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
The primary camera set up consists of two 13MP sensors that come from Sony. One camera captures monochrome imaging data while the second captures RGB data. The f/1.8 aperture lens allows for better low light capabilities along with a bokeh mode. There are also other camera features like slow shutter, night mode, HDR and a manual mode that completes the camera-centric package for the Dual 5.
Add to this a separate customisable hardware key, a hybrid dual SIM slot that supports 4G and VoLTE and the usual connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and an Infrared beamer.
On the software front, the Micromax Dual 5 runs a customised version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow which again looks eerily similar to Qiku's software and also comes with a 360 Security software.
