Our sources in the market have confirmed that Micromax will be launching a new 3D smartphone, the A115 Canvas 3D, later this month. The smartphone will have a 3D-enabled camera, much like HTC's classic Evo 3D. Other than the 3D features in the camera, though, it looks more-or-less identical to the A115 Canvas HD.
We also have pictures of the phone courtesy of the MMX Newscaster Twitter account. One of the screenshots is of the About window, and it shows the phone's model is the Micromax A115. Other details in the window reveal the fact that it will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
These images indicate that the phone will be named the A116 Canvas 3D
The phone will reportedly have a 5-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, and is said to be powered by a dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor. However, there is some conflicting information, as other reports indicate that it will feature the same quad-core processor that powers the Canvas HD. The phone will sport an 8-megapixel camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
The last smartphone in the Canvas lineup, dubbed the Canvas HD, has been wildly popular; Micromax sold 9,000 units on the first day of its launch. The handset was easily one of the most awaited products to launch in India this year and the early healthy sales indicate that the combination of high-end specs and a sumptuous low price has worked for the company. Micromax had claimed the Rs 13,990 handset was being booked at a pace of 25 units per minute.
The camera seems to be 3D-capable
The Canvas HD has a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and an update to Android 4.2 is expected to come soon.
Other specs of the Canvas HD include:
- 5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
- Dual-SIM, 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
- GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS
- Bluetooth with A2DP
- 8MP rear camera with LED flash, and VGA front camera
- 4GB of internal storage and supports microSD card up to 32GB
